Laws & Restrictions

Eligibility requirements:

  • You must be a US citizen or a permanent legal resident alien
  • You must currently reside in the US
  • You must be 21 years of age or older to own a gun (18 years old to use a gun)
  • 3-5 day waiting period to purchase a gun; average cost = $500
  • Training class required for concealed weapons permit = $50; 3 hour course
  • Apply for a gun license online at: http://licgweb.doacs.state.fl.us/index.html
  • Licensing cost = $112
  • Must renew every 7 years = $60 (Late fee = $15)
  • Average timeline for application to be received, processed and approved = 90 days
  • Firearm must be kept in glove compartment or trunk (out of driver’s reach) without a CW permit
  • With a CW permit, a gun must be kept out of sight from someone looking into the car
  • Not permitted in government buildings, school grounds (includes parking lots), stadiums, bars, job premises, Disney World & movie theatres (as a company rule)

How to Remain Undead & Unindicted Using a Gun:

  • To warn assailants, put your hand on your gun and say, “I’m armed.”
  • If you shoot, keep firing until your attacker is down
  • Don’t shoot from more than 10 feet outside your home
  • When an attacker goes down, kick his gun away, but not too far
  • Do not administer a “coup de grace” shot to the head
  • Dial 911 and say: “I was attacked, There’s been a shooting at (address). Send an ambulance and a supervisor.” Hang up.
  • Photograph the victim, the gun, witnesses and the scene. Email the pictures to yourself or upload them to the cloud immediately. Password protect your phone, tablet and/or camera in the event they are confiscated, thereby requiring a warrant to access
  • If the guy you shot is alive, you must render aid.
  • If the bad guy flees, you must report it to the police
  • If you are no longer at risk, don’t leave the scene.
  • When police begin to question you, say and give them the “cop card.”
  • If police ask to search your car and/or home, say, “no.”
  • In the days that follow, do not talk to friends or relatives except to say that there was a shooting, it was horrible, and you can’t discuss it further.
  • Do not talk to the media. permitted in government buildings, school grounds (includes parking lots), stadiums, bars, job premises, Disney World & movie theatres (as a company rule)
